Media Coverage: 'Green Station' to start operating in Sha Tin

Hong Kong's first community "Green Station" will start operating Sha Tin on Tuesday.
 

The HK$20 million project aims to promote waste recycling.

The station will collect a variety of recyclable materials and forward them to companies to make useful new items.

The government built the 1,600 square metre complex last year near the MTR's Shek Mun Station.

It is being run by a non-governmental organization - the Christian Family Service Centre.

Its Programme Director, Kitty Chau. said lorries would be provided to collect the recyclable items.

An Assistant Director of Enviromental Protection, Samson Lai, said he was confident that the "Green Station" will act as a complement rather than a threat to the private sector recycling industry.
